Age Concern North Tyneside was established in 1972 as a registered charity and became a Company Limited by Guarantee in 1987. It has a strong Board of 12 Trustees and 3 co-optees who meet bi-monthly and govern and manage the charity by dividing into three sub committees: Executive, Finance and Audit & Review. Age Concern North Tyneside strives to represent all older people across the borough, works with older people and listens to their views, and provides a wide range of services and opportunities. It is the largest Day Care provider in the borough and provides a range of social, leisure, and learning activities and services for all older people 50+. It was also the first to manage 3 Very Sheltered Housing Schemes in the area in conjunction with Home Housing, Newcastle & Whitley Housing Trust and North Tyneside Council. Age Concern North Tyneside is a member of the Age Concern federation of over 400 independent charities which share the same name, values and standards. All members are expected to report, every five years, against the federation Foundation Standard and its Expectations and submit a self-audit report which is followed by an Inspection, with outcomes reported to the Membership & Standards Committee of the federation.
