The Hand in Hand project is a volunteer befriending scheme for elderly people living in the Wallsend area. It is a free service run by local volunteers who carry an identity card. The volunteers receive training and on-going support and are not there to take the place of Home Carers but in addition as a friend. Services provided include a lunch club, reminiscence club (at Lisle Court) calling in for tea and a chat, providing company visiting shops, the doctor or hospital, or helping with form filling, reading writing letters etc.
